Institute for Middle East Studies was established on July 3rd, 1992 with the code 3837 as an Institute subject to Marmara University Presidency under the name the Institute of Middle East and Islamic Countries. The teaching and education began on 1993-1994 Education period and its name has changed with the Cabinet decision (no. 2002/3651 and date January 26th, 2002) and has become Institute for Middle East Studies.
