The Institute was established on 03.07.1992 with the law numbered 3837 under the name of the Institute of Middle East and Islamic Countries under the Rectorate of Marmara University. With the Decree of the Council of Ministers dated 25.05.2015 and numbered 2015/7723, the name of the Institute was changed as the Institute of Middle East and Islamic Countries Studies. Since the beginning, our institute has the first and leading position in Türkiye, providing post-graduate degrees related to the Middle East and Islamic countries. In the institute, thought courses and written theses are to evaluate the issues related to the politics, economics, sociology and geopolitics of the Middle East and Islamic countries and to shed light on the future projections. Since its establishment, the Institute has been the pioneer of scholarly and academic studies on the Middle East and Islamic countries at the post-graduate level and has played a strategic role in increasing knowledge and shaping awareness of the Middle East and Islamic countries with its academics and graduate students. Currently, the Institute is one of the most preferred institutions for many national and foreign students who want to do master and doctoral studies related to the Middle East and the Islamic world. The internationally well-known academic in the institute publishes scientific publications with an interdisciplinary approach on many different topics related to the history, politics, economics, geography, society and state structures of the Middle East and Islamic countries. The Institute offers degrees on Middle Eastern Political History and International Relations, Middle Eastern Sociology and Anthropology, Middle Eastern Political Economy, Middle Eastern Geography and Geopolitics, and Middle Eastern Legal Systems.
